Course descriptionSinging, as a very simple explanation, is basically sustained vowel sound. But of course, we sing to express ourselves, whether it's with a simple folk song, a jazz ballad, or a powerful operatic aria. So if we wish to do this on the stage in a professional manner, it's necessary to learn how it's done in a healthy way, so that the singer has a deep confidence that he or she knows how it all works, singing with the best possible sound and musical values. The exercises I use were developed in the 19th century by Europe's most famous singing teachers: Manuel Garcia and Salvatore Marchesi. These exercises lengthen the range, produce stamina, perfect coordination, and a beautiful sound. They became the foundation for the "bel canto" tradition that started in Italy, spreading throughout the operatic world, and trained generations of famous singers.
